Photonics21
The European Technology Platform Photonics21 represents the European photonics community of industry and research organisations. They were invited to form a Photonics Public Private Partnership back in 2012 with the European Technology Platform (ETP) representing the European Photonics Community. At the beginning of 2015 they decided that they needed to update their brand identity which was starting to look a little dated and disparate. At the same time they needed to create an extension of their brand which could incorporate the Photonics Public Private Partnership. Our solution was to update their existing logo by making it less elongated so that it could gave more impact when displayed alongside other logos. We also adjusted some of the letter spacing so that it looked more uniform. At the same time we created the PPP logo using strict European Commission guidelines. Client: Photonics21 Website: www.photonics21.orgWe also created a new set of visuals based on ‘light’ and the mixing of the three primary colours.
A number of design templates were created to reflect three key areas of Information, Events and Brochures. The striking visuals help give standout
and unity and are a big departure from all previous work where slightly clichéd stock images of people, light waves and technology were used.
We also created a set of brand guidelines showing how the logos and graphic devices could be used along with fonts and colour palates.
10 year anniversary
Photonics21 celebrated their tenth anniversary at the beginning of March 2016 at their Photonics PPP Annual Meeting where more than 370 participants discussed the future of photonics in Europe. They asked Ocean whether we could create a special presentation for them that could be shown at the very start of the meeting.
Our solution was to create a five minute film which would celebrate memories, programs, actions, and people involved from the very start of setting up the initiative to the current structure and formulation of the Public Private Partnership.
The film mixes still images, video graphics, music, voice over, facts and figures to create an engaging and entertaining animated historical timeline.
